Le Pont d'Orthez, watercolor, 30x24 cm., 2007. This painting was exhibited at "Au Village" gallerie, in Saint Savin, then at the Bibliotheque de Cauterets, the following year. This bridge is in Orthez, France, near the Pyrenees, about one hour from Lourdes. Fue exhibido en la galeria "Au Village", en Saint-Savin, luego en la Bibliotheque Municipale de Cauterets al ano siguiente. But what then with the representation of angels, or the virgin? How do we know how to represent them? Back to my comments about Landscapes, I've read that Oscar Wilde suggested that " life imitates nature, and nature invents itself". Landscapes as images, establish an enigm: we try to find out if they are simple immitations of nature in pigment and dessign, an intelligent representation, or simply a presentation. The question of landscape also presents the question of nature, since without the perception of it, there is no nature. Landscape has always existed and continues, because it supports our dreams, nostalgic feelings, and meditation. Today's public loves landscapes. Apparently, the alchimists contributed to the emergence of "landscapes" as we consider the term, due to their studies of the combination of air, water, earth and fire as expressions of Nature. El Paisaje siempre ha existido y continua, porque apoya nuestros suenos, sentimientos nostalgicos, y meditacion. El publico de hoy adora los paisajes. Aparentemente, los alquimistas contribuyeron a este surgimiento del "paisaje", como lo consideramos hoy, debido a sus estudios de la combinacion del aire, agua, tierra y fuego como expresiones de la Naturaleza.

Nap Time

Nap Time, monochrome watercolor, 4x6", is a quick sketch of an unsuspecting subject. I did it last week, on the train from Bayone to Lourdes, in France. The young man was taking a nap. The ring of my notebook seems to hook his face and hand. Tiempo de Siesta, acuarela monocromatica, fue un bosquejo rapido de un sujeto inocente. Lo hice la semana pasada, en el tren de Bayone a Lourdes, en Francia. El joven estaba dormido. El anillo de mi cuaderno pareciera hacer un gancho entre su cara y su mano.

Speaking of Landscape, it's interesting to note that it was a favorite subject of the followers of Futurist theories at the beginning of the 20thC., in part due to the influence of photography, and of the primitive arts. Hablando de Paisaje, es interesante notar que fue un sujeto favorito de los seguidores de teorias Futuristas al principio del siglo 20, debido en parte a la influencia de la fotografi, y de las artes primitivas.

At the Musee d'Art de Ceret, there was an exhibition about Landscapes of the town and its surroundings last year. Landscapes of Ceret by Matisse, Soutine, Picasso, Braque, Pierre Brune, Kremegne, Chagall, Juan Gris, and many other well known artists. Landscape was in fashion in the XIXth Century, even beginning of XXth. En el Musee d'Art de Ceret, habia una exhibicion de Paisajes de la ciudad y sus alrededores, el ano pasado. Paisajes pintados por Matisse, Soutine, Picasso, Braque, Pierre Brune, Kremegne, Chagall, Juan Gris, y muchos otros artistas bien conocidos. El paisaje estaba de moda a fines del siglo XIX y principios del XX.
