Now, in my third life, I live and paint in France and California, about six months a year in each place. My heart breaks a little every time I say goodbye, and sings with joy at every re-encounter. "Partir est mourir un peu...mais rester, c'est quoi rester?" (To leave is to die a little...but to stay...what is it to stay?) I read at the Jardin de Luxembourg in Paris, once.

Ahora, en mi tercera vida, vivo y pinto en Francia y California, unos seis meses al ano en cada lugar. Mi corazon se rompe un poco cada vez que digo "Adios", y canta de alegria con cada re-encuentro. "Partir est mourir un peu...mais rester, c'est quoi rester?" (Partir es morir un poco...pero quedarse quieto...es que, quedarse quieto?") lei una vez en el Jardin de Luxembourg en Paris.

At the same time, my life as an artist painter in California was taking off, too. I was exhibiting regularly in local juried shows in several cities between Los Angeles and San Diego. I kept studying art history and learning new techniques in different media: watercolor, acrylic, pastel, oils. I studied and painted constantly. Awards and sales rewarded my work.
Al mismo tiempo, mi vida como pintora en California tambien estaba avanzando. Estaba exhibiendo regularmente en exhibiciones de grupo en galerias locales de varias ciudades chicas entre Los Angeles y San Diego. Yo seguia estudiando historia del arte y aprendiendo nuevas tecnicas en diferentes medios: acuarela, acrilico, pastel y oleo. Estudiaba y trabajaba constantemente.  Premios y ventas premiaban mi trabajo.

As my French improved, shows at the Bibliotheque Municipale de Cauterets, les Amis des Arts de Verfeil, and workshops for the Office de Tourisme kept me very busy. My third life, as an artist painter in France, provided enormous satisfaction.
This is my Blog entry number 362, only three more entries to fulfill my commitment of doing 365 in one year. I'm almost there!

A medida que mejoraba mi frances, exhibiciones en la Biblioteca Municipal de Cauterets, los Amigos de las Artes de Verfeil, y cursillos para la Oficina de Turismo me mantenian muy ocupada. Mi tercera vida, como artista pintora en Francia, me proveia una gran satisfaccion.

Esta es la entrada numero 362 en mi Blog, para completar mi compromiso de hacer 365 en un ano. Ya estoy llegando!

Painting everywhere! In San Diego, California, restaurant owner-chef David Petrini asked me to decorate the walls of his restaurant with my paintings. Since 2006, my artwork is exhibited and for sale at this excellent restaurant in Little Italy, corner of Ash and India Streets, San Diego, California. Every year I change the theme and the collection in February-March. At this moment, the theme "Little Italy and Beyond", with landscapes of the San Diego area is still on. I'm about to change the show in a few weeks, to "La Donna e Mobile". Come visit us!
Pintando por todas partes! En San Diego, California, el dueno-chef de restaurante David Petrini me pidio que decorara las paredes de su restaurante con mis pinturas. Desde 2006, mi trabajo esta en exhibicion y a la venta en este restaurante excelente en Little Italy, en la esquina de las calles Ash e India, en San Diego, California. Todos los anos cambio el tema y la coleccion alrededor de febrero-marzo. En este momento, el tema "Little Italy and Beyond", con paisajes de San Diego y sus alrededores todavia esta alli. Estoy por cambiarlo en unas semanas, con "La Donna e Mobile". Ven a vernos!

Passion

I decided to post this portrait of Benazir Bhutto I did in 2009,  after just seeing the movie "Bhutto", a documentary about this complex and fascinating woman. She was the first woman in history to lead a Muslim nation: Pakistan. Educated at Harvard and Oxford, Benazir Bhutto's life changed forever when her father, Pakistan's first elected president, chose her to carry his political legacy. Her two terms in power saw acts of courage and controversy as she eradicated polio in Pakistan and stood up for women, while fighting the male-dominated political elite. With her assassination she transcended politics, and left a legacy of controversy and courage. "Bhutto", a film by Duane Baughman, USA, 2010.Winner: Special Jury Prize, Sonoma International Film Festival.

Decidi publicar este retrato de Benazir Bhutto que pinte en 2009, luego de ver la pelicula "Bhutto" anoche, una documental sobre esta mujer compleja y fascinante. Ella fue la primera mujer en la historia que dirijio un pais Musulman: Pakistan. Educada en Harvard y Oxford, la vida de Benazir cambio para siempre cuando su padre, el primer presidente elegido en Pakistan, la eligio para seguir su legado politico. Sus dos terminos en el poder vieron actos de valentia y controversia, entre otros actos, erradico la polio en Pakistan y defendio los derechos de la mujer, mientras luchaba con la elite politica dominada por hombres. Con su asesinato, ella fue mas alla de la politica, y dejo un legado de controversia y valor. "Bhutto", pelicula dirigida por Duane Baughman, USA, 2010. Ganadora del Premio Especial del Jurado, Festival Internacional de Sonoma.

ArteXpoArezzo, Italy: Nostalgias

This is one of eight paintings in my Tango series, that will be exhibited in the ArteXpo Arezzo, Italy, in March. If you are in Italy at the time,  go see ArteXpo in Arezzo. It's a beautiful, elegant city, and this annual exhibit is wonderful!  It will be from the 17th to the 21st of March, and my artwork will be in the stand number 2 of the Contemporary Art Pavillion in the Fair building. The address is Via Spallanzani 23, 52100. Arezzo, Italia.
Esta es una de ocho pinturas en mi serie Tango, que seran exhibidas en ArteXpo Arezzo, Italia, en marzo. Si estas en Italia en esa epoca, no te pierdas ArteXpo en Arezzo. Es una ciudad hermosa, elegante, y esta exhibicion anual es buenisima! Tendra lugar del 17 al 21 de marzo, y mi trabajo estara en el stand numero 2 del Pabellon de Arte Contemporaneo del recinto ferial situado en Via Spallanzani, 23. 52100 Arezzo, Italia.

1000 sketchbooks at the Skirball

1000 sketchbooks at the Skirball Cultural Center, in Los Angeles, California.
I'm interrupting my list of pages of my own sketchbook (continued in the next Blog) to share my visit to the Skirball Cultural Center last week. One of their exhibits is a collection of ONE THOUSAND sketchbooks, done by different people. As part of the exhibit, they have blank sketchbooks and all kinds of markers, papers, materials to cut out, etc. for the visitors, young and old, to write/paint/make their own pages. This is the one I made. It was fun!

Mil cuadernos en el Centro Cultural Skirball, en Los Angeles, California. 

Interrumpo mi lista de paginas de mi propio cuaderno de dibujos (continuare en el proximo Blog) para compartir con mis lectores mi visita a este centro cultural la semana pasada. Una de sus exhibiciones es una coleccion de MIL cuadernos de dibujos, cada pagina contribuida por distintas personas. Como parte de la exhibicion, tienen cuadernos en blanco y toda clase de lapices, marcadores, etiquetas, papeles de colores, mapas, para que los visitantes de todas las edades escriban/pinten/hagan su propia pagina. Esta es la yo hice. Fue muy divertido!
