Today, a bit of history: Oil painting was invented in the 15th C. by the Flemish Van Eyck (1390-1441). Until then, tempera had been the most common medium to use. Tempera is pigment + egg yolk + water. It dried with cracking. Van Eyck discovered that mixing pigment with linseed oil, paint dried without cracking! Hoy, un poco de historia: La pintura al oleo fue inventada en el siglo 15 por el pintor Van Eyck, flamenco. Hasta entonces, la tempera habia sido la tecnica mas usada. Tempera es pigmento mas yema de huevo mas agua. Se rompia al secarse. Van Eyck descubrio que mezclando pigmento con aceite de lino, la pintura no se resquebrajaba al secarse!
