John Gage, in COLOR IN ART, tells us that the red-blue-yellow triad had established itself as fundamental among artists all over Europe b y the middle of the 17th C. Yet, blue and yellow were given new authority as the "only primaries" in the 19th C. by Goethe and others. They also formed a dominant pair for Matisse and Kandinsky.

John Gage, en el libro "Color en Arte", nos dice que el trio rojo-amarillo-azul como colores primarios fue establecido como fundamental entre los artistas europeos en la mitad del siglo XVII. Sin embargo, el azul y amarillo gozaron de nueva autoridad como los "unicos primarios" en el siglo XIX, de acuerdo a Goethe y otros. Tambien formaron un par dominante para Matisse y Kandinsky.
