Please click to enlarge. On the right is the entrance to the port of Marseille, and on the left you can see the Cathedral: La Major, in the back ground, and in black le MUCEM, the most incredibly modern museum, inaugurated a few months ago.

I have been asked to write about my inspiration, and the artists that have inspired me. Delacroix and his travel sketchbooks have definitely been an inspiration for mine. I use ink and watercolors for my travel sketchbooks, and have a collection of them, since I started doing this, about 7 years ago. I have published a few as books, two are for sale at the moment: MY THREE LIVES: in Argentina, USA and France.  Also: LOOKING FORWARD, watercolors during my five week cruise to South America. I had the opportunity of visiting the studio of Barabas Marton, a famous Hungarian artist whose work is in several museums here in Budapest. He works with piano pieces. Born in 1952 in Budapest, he creates dimensional work and painted illusions. He realizes unique, organic, constructive, intertwined or solitary geometric shapes, regular or irregular. Very interesting work! His next exhibition will be in Marseille, France, at the Book-Art Festival in October 2012.

Marseille, Port des Belges

Like the watercolor posted yesterday, this one was also painted alla prima, plein air in Marseille (France) this past October.
Joan Miro's exhibition in Baden-Baden (Germany) in 2010, had many pieces of his theme: women, stars, and birds. I also saw two series of "slow paintings" and some "spontaneous paintings" as he called them. It was a wonderful show! And the city of Baden-Baden itself is a garden of delights!

Marseille, Vieux Port

Marseille, Vieux Port, watercolor, 7x10, available. I was in Marseille, France, in October, and painted this watercolor sitting in front of this open-air market along  the Old Port (vieux port). Marseille is such a beautiful and colorful city! The old fort at the entrance of the bay is far-away on the right hand side of the painting.
