Ropa Tendida II

Ropa Tendida II, watercolor on Yupo, 20x26" (50x65cm.) This painting was done a couple of years ago, and exhibited at the San Diego Watercolor Society in April 2008, then at the San Diego Hospice Gallery in January 2009. "Ropa Tendida", acuarela sobre papel Yupo, resistente al agua. Esta pintura fue hecha hace un par de anos, y exhibida en la Sociedad de Acuarela de San Diego en abril 2008, luego en la galeria del Hospital de San Diego en enero 2009.

Today is my Blog entry number 150, and the end of my 5th month. For 150 days I've been posting a painting and writing a comment in English. Most days I've also translated into Spanish, particularly after I got feedback asking me to continue doing so. Kandinsky said that the artist is the first one to see the invisible. Through her painting, she wants to transmit to the world this experience of clairvoyant. Hoy es la entrada numero 150 en mi Blog, y el final del quinto mes. Durante 150 dias he estado publicando una pintura diaria y escribiendo un comentario en ingles. La mayoria de las veces lo he traducido al espanol, particularmente luego de recibir informacion y pedido de continuar. Kandinsky dijo que la artista es la primera en ver lo invisible. A traves de su pintura, ella quiere transmitir al mundo esta experiencia de Clarividente.

Point Loma Lighthouse over Paris

Point Loma Lighthouse over Paris, 14x22 " (35x55 cm.) was painted over a map of Paris, and certain areas were left transparent so you can see through the paint. Point Loma lighthouse is in San Diego, California. The painting is hanging at Petrini's Restaurant, in San Diego, California. Esta pintura fue pintada sobre un mapa de Paris, y ciertas zonas fueron dejadas transparentes para que puedas ver el mapa a traves de la pintura. Esta obra cuelga ahora en Restaurante Petrini, en San Diego, California.

I created my own technique for this project of paintings of San Diego scenes over maps of different parts of the world. I started by steaming and ironing the maps, since they had been folded for years, and Ididn't want the marks of the folds in the painting. Experimenting with something new is fascinating. I also added stamps or a metro ticket to different paintings, each painting is unique! You can still see some of them at Petrini's , at the corner of Ash and India streets, in San Diego, California. Yo cree mi propia tecnica para este projecto de pinturas de escenas de San Diego sobre mapas de distintas partes del mundo. Comenze por planchar al vapor los mapas, pues habian estado doblados durante anos, y no queria tener las marcas de los dobleces en la pintura. Experimentar algo nuevo es fascinante. Tambien agregue tickets del metro, estampillas a distintas pinturas. Cada pintura es unica! Todavia pueden ver algunas de ellas en "Petrini's Restaurant"', en la esquina de Ash y India, en San Diego, California.

Point Loma Lighthouse over India

Point Loma Lighthouse over India, 18x13" (45x31cm.) mixed media: watercolor and acrylic over a map of India. This painting was part of a series of paintings I did of San Diego, California scenes over maps of different areas of the world. I left small portions of the map to be seen through. Esta pintura es parte de una serie de pinturas que hice de escenas de San Diego, California, sobre mapas de distintas zonas del mundo. Deje pequenas partes del mapa que se vieran a traves de la pintura.

This show, which I called "Caprichos", reflected my passion for travelling and my love of different places. I enjoy being "here" wherever I am, and I'm always ready to go "there", Paris, Istanbul, Hong Kong, or Dakar. I always carry drawing and painting materials and a small watercolor journal with me. When I sit at an airport waiting for my next flight I do quick draws of people walking by or having a drink at the bar. A esta exhibicion la llame "Caprichos", pues reflejaba mi pasion por viajar y mi carino por distintos lugares visitados. Yo disfruto de estar "aqui" donde sea que estoy, y estoy siempre lista para ir "alla", a Paris, Istanbul, Hong Kong, o Dakar. Yo siempre llevo conmigo mis materiales de dibujo y pintura y un pequeno cuaderno de acuarela. Cuando me siento en un aeropuerto a esperar mi proximo vuelo hago bosquejos rapidos de gente caminando o tomando un trago en el bar.

To School

To School, acrylic on Panama coffee bags stretched and treated like canvas, 30x22" (75x55 cm). Children walking to school in the morning on the high way is a common sight in this rain forest area of Panama, near Boquete. A few walk barefoot, like this girl. This original painting is in exhibit at Boquete Studio, downtown Boquete, Panama, till the end of July. (I have painted a similar image in pastel on Canson paper, smaller.) Ninos caminando a la escuela por la carretera en la manana es una vista comun aqui en el bosque lluvioso de Panama, cerca de Boquete. Algunos caminan descalzos, como esta nina. Esta pintura esta en exhibicion en el Boquete Studio, en el centro de Boquete, Panama, hasta fines de julio. (He pintado una imagen similar en pastel sobre papel Canson, mas pequena.)

In January 2009 I visited the National Gallery of Women in the Arts, in Washington D.C. I saw some of Mary Cassatt's beautiful work. I read that Degas, impressed with Mary Cassatt's "Ida" said: "Voila' quelqu'un qui sent comme moi." (Here is somebody who feels like me.) En enero del 2009 visite la Galeria Nacional de Mujeres Artistas, en Washington D.C. Vi algunos hermosos trabajos de Mary Cassatt. Lei que Degas, impresionado con la pintura al pastel de Mary Cassatt "Ida", dijo: "Aqui hay alguien que siente como yo".

Kuna Stroll

Kuna Stroll, 30x22" (75x55cm.) acrylic paint on Panamenian coffee bag. The Kuna indians live in the San Blas archipielago, near Panama City. The women wear tight bracelets around their arms and legs, which keeps them very thin. Their clothes are quite striking. This is one of the paintings I'm showing at Boquete Studio, in Boquete, Panama. Pintura sobre bolsas de cafe de Panama. Los indios Kuna viven en el archipielago de San Blas, cerca de la capital, Panama. Las mujeres usan pulseras apretadas en los brazos y las piernas, lo que las mantiene muy delgadas. La ropa que usan tiene colores brillantes. Esta es una de mis pinturas en el Boquete Studio, en la ciudad de Boquete, Panama.


Enjoy who you're with, love what you do, use what you have. I arrived in Boquete with my paints, and no canvases, I was going to buy them here. Problem was...no art stores, no canvases to buy. At the same time, I discovered that Boquete, Panama, is home to the best coffee in the world, which is exported everywhere. I decided to experiment painting Panama's people on Panama's coffee bags. I had frames built, and I stretched my own canv....my own coffee bags! After several trials with different techniques, due to the coarseness of the coffee bag, I'm happy with the result. Disfruta de tu compania, ama lo que haces, usa lo que tienes. Yo llegue a Boquete con mis pinturas, pero sin telas, pues habia pensado comprarlas aqui. El problema fue...no habia negocios de arte, ni telas para comprar. A la vez, descubri que Boquete es el hogar del mejor cafe del mundo, el que se exporta a todo el mundo. Decidi experimentar pintando la gente de Panama en bolsas de cafe de Panama. Hice hacer los bastidores, y estire mis propias tel...mis propias bolsas de cafe! Luego de varias pruebas con distintas tecnicas, debido al grosor de las bolsas, ahora estoy contenta con el resultado.

Esta es la tercera pintura en la serie sobre madera, en exhibicion en el Boquete Studio, que abre manana viernes 25 de junio, en Boquete, Panama. Exploring New Depths: Give your work the illusion of spacial depth with five simple effects of perspective. 1: Linear perspective, here given by the railing and the rooftop of the gallery. 2: aerial perspective (atmospheric), how the appearance of an object is affected by the space between it and the viewer. Leonardo Da Vinci called it: "the perspective of disappearance". 3: diminishing contrast. 4: lightening of overall values. 5: neutralization (color shift to blue). Explorando Profundidades Nuevas: Puedes dar a tu trabajo la ilusion de profundidad con cinco efectos simples de perspectiva: 1.
