One hundred works by Joan Miro, covering six decades of this Catalan artist: paintings, scultures and ceramics from all over the world: Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Tate in London, museums from Washington D.C., Madrid, and private collections.

The Eye of the Stone

The Eye of the Stone, acrylic on paper, 24x19" (60x47cm.)

I show my struggle, in opposition to classical art, where everything has pristine effect. In contemporary art you want to show the struggle. I like to see behind the curtain, to see the process. There is some writing crossed out in this painting, which is all about struggle and pain. After recuperating from passing a kidney stone earlier this year, I made two paintings about this event, "Falling Stones", (Juror's Commendation Award, SDWS March 2010) and this one, "Eye of the Stone".

Les Toits d'Autumn, watercolor on Yupo, 68x50 cm., commissioned.

Much can be learned by looking at and studying paintings. Since so many important works of art are in Europe, I highly recommend travel and study in Europe. Nothing can compare to actually seeing and experiencing a painting, no matter how good the reproduction.

Senegalese Workers

Senegalese Workers, watercolor, 4x6" (10x15cm.), 2009.

"From the age of 6 to 14 I took violin lessons but had no luck with my teachers, for whom music did not transcend mechanical practicing. I really began to learn only after I had fallen in love with Mozart's sonatas. The attempt to reproduce their singular grace compelled me to improve my technique. I believe, on the whole, that love is a better teacher than sense of duty." Albert Einstein.
Alberto Einstein.
