A new study proves creating visual art after retirement does a body-and mind- good. A recent study conducted in Germany suggests it might be beneficial to our brains. Using fMRI (functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) to measure brain activity in recent retirees, several researchers published their results in an article: "How Art Changes Your Brain" in PLOS ONE, an international, peer reviewed outline journal.
The brains of those who were "physically creating art" showed "a significant improvement in psychological resilience" or stress resistance over the control group taking art appreciation. Find more details: www.plosone.org

This painting is recent, and part of my new series of San Diego scenes, acrylic on canvas.

This "painting San Diego" I'm doing lately,  reminds me of Gianfranco Baruchello, an Italian artist whose work was exhibited at the Biennale di Venezia this year. He is 89 years old, was a friend of Marcel Duchamp and Italo Calvino. These friendships introduced him to the notion that art is a form of faith in the ability to transmute everyday objects and activities into something greater.

At La Biennale di Venezia, I read a booklet published by Enel Contemporanea. This is an electricity company that is one of the sponsors of La Biennale. This is what they have to say:
"We wondered: is there something more luminous than light? ART is more luminous than light. We have realized that art makes a truly special light, because it is the only light that let us look at it, a light that illuminates without glare. Normal light illuminates the darkness around us, art illuminates what is inside us."

John Gage, in his book: COLOR IN ART, explains extensively  the history of some colors in daily life, and on the painter's palette. "Color is implicated in physics, in chemistry, in psychology, in physiology, in geography,  as well as in language and philosophy."

La Nonette `a Senlis

La Nonette `a Senlis, watercolor "a la prima", 6x4" -15x10 cm. This lovely river in the area of Chantilly and Senlis, north of Paris, France, with some ducks raising their families, gave me a wonderful rest after a two hour walking tour of Senlis.
En TODO LO QUE HAY QUE SABER SOBRE EL ARTE (Everything you must know about Art), Zaldo and Sifuentes, 2010,  the authors claim the following is necessary for an artist to be great:
1. Capacity for invention
2. Her(his) life must mark a "before" and "after"
3. Time should increase her(his) reputation
4. Introduction of new ways of expression

La Nonette `a Senlis, acuarela pintada "a la prima". Este encantador rio en la zona de Chantilly y Senlis, al norte de Paris, Francia, con algunos patos criando a sus familias, me dio un bienvenido descanso luego de una visita guiada de dos horas a traves de la ciudad de Senlis.

En Todo lo que hay que saber sobre el Arte, Zaldo y Sifuentes, 2010, las autoras dicen que lo siguiente es necesario para que un/a artista sea grande:

1. Capacidad de invencion

2. Su vida debe marcar un "antes" y "despues"

3. El tiempo debe aumentar su reputacion

4. Introduccion de nuevas vias de expresion.
