Renoir said: "Black and white are not colors." Even today, many art schools frown upon the use of black.Yet black has existed in paintings since Altamira and Lascaux, to contemporary work. Near the end of his life, Renoir admitted: "It took me forty years to discover that the queen of all colors is black." Better late than never..I say.

Zapatos
Zapatos, pastel,16x20", available.
In the South of France, the walls of certain caves are painted with images of animals. In Lascaux there are 364 images of horses. While they painted they ate deer meat. There are no pictures of deer, why? In this era, painters learned from other painters, the technique and style. They copied their masters...for thousands of years without creating something new....why?
