CALIFORNIA SOUVENIR, acrylic on board/panel, plein-air

CALIFORNIA SOUVENIR, 9x12 in. painted plein-air in Cambria, California. I must add I painted it last Spring while freezing to death on the cold beach, in spite of all the jackets I was wearing! But it was fun anyway, because I was with good company.

In painting as in life, it is not WHAT you do, or WHERE you do it, but HOW and WHY you do it. It's the motive, the goal, the company that counts.

BACKYARD VIEW, ink and watercolor sketch in journal

BACKYARD VIEW, ink and watercolor sketch in journal. Painted plain-air, sitting in front of the window with a cup of coffee, after finishing the book: THE NAKED TRUTH, AND PERSONAL VISION, by Barlett H. Hayes Jr.
"The Arts are man's protest to accepting the world at its face value. ...... Within each straight-away the road seems clear, but the memory of earlier directions warns that the view never can be the same for all people."   Just like in life... I loved this book.

Back to School in Croatia, watercolor

Back to School in Croatia, watercolor, 4x6 (10x15cm.) painted on location, in the rain! I was there with Les Rats des Champs, a plein air painting group based in Paris. They travel to different locations often in and around Paris, and a few times a year they go farther away for a week or two. This time we stayed for a couple of weeks in several cities in Croatia. The first few days it rained, quite heavily at times, so it was quite challenging to keep our commitment: we paint outdoors rain or shine, snow or wind, 9 am till...sometimes almost 9pm! It was fun! I made a couple of larger paintings, and many small ones, since the weather was not too conducive to large set-ups till the last few days. Croatia is a beautiful country!!

Fuente de Burgos, Spain, watercolor plein air

Fuente de Burgos, Spain, watercolor, plein air, 4x6 (10x15cm.) Available.
Burgos is a beautiful and sophisticated city in the North of Spain, where sculptures, water fountains, parks, give you a feeling of calm, relaxation, and joy. I painted this small watercolor sitting in front of the changing fountain, its waters danced for me with gusto and passion!

Fuente de Burgos

Fuente de Burgos, Spain.  watercolor, 10x15cm. (4x6") available: 40 Euros, = $55US. Painted plein-air on location.
Burgos is a beautiful town in the north of Spain, where I was last week for a few days. This water fountain by the river and park dances, changing constantly, surprising the passers by. At night, the lights dance in unison with the waters. A modern building with details in red behind gives a good color contrast.
