ROPA TENDIDA, watercolor on Yupo, 20x26 in. (51x66 cm.)
This watercolor is from a few years ago. It has been juried into the San Diego Watercolor Society a couple of years ago, then Gallery 21 in Baboa Park, and now into the Point Loma Credit Union watercolor exhibition. You can see it there until November 21st. There will be a reception on October 20th, 3-5 pm. You are all invited!!!!
Yupo is a material used as "paper" for watercolors, but it is actually not paper, it is 100% polypropylene. Since it does not absorb water or the pigment we use, the water and pigment just "sit there" until it dries by evaporation. The color stays much stronger on the surface due to lack of absorption, and it is relatively easy to take away pigment and leave the white of the surface in certain parts with a cotton Q-tip, or a wet brush.

Tranquera Cordobesa, watercolor, 11x14

I was reading a quote by Pablo Picasso: "La Inspiracion existe, pero debe encontrarte trabajando."
"Inspiration exists, but it must find you working."

ARICA II, CHILE
Arica II, Chile, watercolor, 4x6
South America Cruise series # 20
Waiting to catch a taxi, standing in the corner in front of this awesome hill, I just HAD to draw it. So with my very fine pen, I drew what I saw on my watercolor paper, while my husband and friends tried to hail a taxi. My drawing done, the taxi arrived, and we went to visit some of the marks on the rocks, from the ancient inhabitants of the area. Later I put some color on the drawing...and listo! La montaña de Arica!
Don't forget to come SUNDAY, APRIL 14TH, TO THE RECEPTION AT GALLERY 21, SPANISH VILLAGE ART CENTER, BALBOA PARK, SAN DIEGO. 3:00-7:00PM. If you must, call in sick at work, ditch school, walk a hundred miles, and come see the show! Then, buy some paintings!

FRIENDSHIP GARDEN MEDITATION, watercolor
Friendship Garden Meditation, watercolor, 7x10 in.
We can all do with a few minutes or hours in a quiet, relaxing place surrounded by nature. Painting in this Japanese Garden in Balboa Park, San Diego, California, a couple of weeks ago was so energizing and relaxing, I finished a couple of watercolors, without feeling tired. My spirit soars when I can paint in a beautiful place like this, listening to the waterfall behind me, in quiet and peace.

Mirror, Mirror
Mirror, Mirror, pastel portrait, 20x16, available @La Jolla Art Association Gallery.
A few years ago, I asked my grand-daughter Emily to play with different hats and scarfs in front of the mirror, while I was taking pictures of her for future portraits. This is one of them. It is now on exhibition at La Jolla Art Association gallery, at 8100 Paseo del Ocaso, La Jolla, California. Come to the reception on Friday evening, from 6:30-8:00pm. There are other artists exhibiting, it is a beautiful show!
Today I painted several hours at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park, San Diego. I did three watercolors. After I photograph them, I will share them in the blog. This garden is beautiful, they are in the process of expanding it, so in the Spring 2013 it will be bigger, at different levels.
