I continue with  Pema Chodron. She says: "Behind all hardening and tightening and rigidity of the heart, there is always FEAR. But if you touch fear, behind fear there is a soft spot. And if you touch that blue spot, you find the vast blue sky."

Pema Chodron, in her book: "Practicing Peace in Times of War", says she advocates courage because it takes courage not to do the habitual thing: tightening our hearts, holding to certain views. Because whenever we feel a threat, we harden. And as long as we justify our own hard hartedness and our own self-righteousness, joy and peace will always elude us.

I've recently read PRACTICING PEACE IN TIMES OF WAR, by Pema Chodron. She explains how war and also peace start in the heart of individuals. Her definition of peace: "Softening what is rigid in our hearts." She advocates courage, the courage to have a change of heart.

Goya used ambiguous titles, like his painting of three religious friars taking a bowl of soup, he called "They are hot", and it could be interpreted for the soup or the monks!

Isabel Sanchez Quevedo, writer about Goya, reminds us that we often look at a painting from a technical point of view forgetting the historical and cultural circumstances that surround every artist's life and that condition her or his work. During the XVIIIth C. Europe, there was a strong interest for popular themes. Goya was greatly impacted by Velazquez, but he truly believed that every artist should be original, he knew he was so, and the effect he wanted to achieve.

Elizabeth Layton, whose drawings and paintings illustrate the book Drawing and Coloring for Your Life, became an art student at 67 years of age.The point of the book is that art helps you to understand and accept yourself and others. Her drawings and paintings express women's feelings of fear, acting in, acting out, and myths about women like her "Garden of Eden" denouncing the fact that women have been taking the blame throughout history for everything. Grab your rainbow and be free!
In the book Drawing and Coloring for your Life, by Julia Nichols, Avis Garrett, and the illustrations of Elizabeth Layton, I've read a comment on fairy tales ending "and they lived happily ever after": The authors say: "NOT NECESSARILY SO. He sits there, glued to the tv set. She pouts, feeling neglected. She consoles herself with chocolates, romance novels..." and I add: wine, going out with her girlfriends, traveling by herself. More on this book in the next Blog.
Ellas dicen: "No siempre ocurre.
