Jacqueline Driving

Jacqueline Driving, watercolor, 12x17cm.
Riding with my friend Jacqueline Peyrot from Argeles-Gazost in the French Pyrenees, I painted this watercolor of her. Later, another good friend of ours, Jean-Claude de Grissard, from Toulouse, France, shared his admiration of the lady. I then gave Jean-Claude this small portrait of Jacqueline with a thank you card, and he had them especially framed.

Days are getting shorter, the year is about to end, in perfect parallel with our lives. There is very little time left, enjoy every minute! Whatever you dream to become, do it now! The future is now.

Le Sac Rouge

Le Sac Rouge, watercolor, 21x14cm. Painted during the weekly plain-aire market in Argeles-Gazost, France." The background is the Catholic Church, in the center of town. The market is on the little streets all around the church, and a couple of streets in continuation, including the plaza in front of City Hall  (la Mairie).
 Plein-aire" or open markets are a tradition in France. They have a regular schedule, usually weekly, which is advertised in posted signs around town and on fliers and lists you can obtain at the Office de Tourisme in each town. Bring cash, most transactions are in cash only.

Auberge d'Arrioutou

Auberge d'Arrioutou, watercolor, 5x7" (12x17cm), available. Painted on location, at this restaurant on top of a hill near the town of Argeles-Gazost, in the French Pyrenees, France. This "auberge" or family hotel/restaurant, was started by the lady, still the owner, about 50 years ago. She's now in her 90s, still peeling carrots in the kitchen, but her children and grandchildren run most of the operation. She visits with the clients, when you are sitting there she comes by, table by table, chats a little with each customer, very well presented, then goes back and works some more. Lovely lady, with a positive attitude about life and work.

"Romanticism", in the 19th C., was born as a reaction to  "Reason above all". Romanticism explores drama and contrasts, sensation and the artist's individuality, imagination and fantasy, evasion, dreams and nature. Main characters: Delacroix, Pre-Rafaelites, Goya, Friedrich, Impressionists.

"El Romanticismo", en el siglo XIX, nacio como reaccion al Raciocinio. El Romanticismo explora el drama y los contrastes, la sensacion y la individualidad del artista, la imaginacion y fantasia, evasion, suenos y la naturaleza. A Media Luz

A Media Luz, acrylique sur Aquarius paper, 75x55cm., 30x22in. Available: 545 Euros or  815 $US. This painting is in exhibition at the Bibliotheque Municipale de Argeles-Gazost, France, at the moment, till Monday August 22.

Under the slogan: "liberty, fraternity, and equality", the French Revolution marks the beginning of the Contemporary Age. The main contributor to Neoclassic painting was Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825), who started the concept of "artist committed to a cause".

Bajo el lema de "igualdad, libertad, fraternidad", la Revolucion Francesa marca el comienzo de la Edad Contemporanea. El principal contribuyente a la pintura Neoclasica fue Jacques-Louis David, quien comenzo el concepto de "artista comprometido".

Chateaux d'Argeles

Chateaux d'Argeles, watercolor, 31x41cm. (12x16") This painting was inspired by my visit, last year, to the small castle in Argeles-Gazost, in the Haute Pyrenees, France.

I recently read that Selma Lagerloff, has said: "We have to treat old stories very carefully. They are similar to old roses, in which their petals fall off at the lightest touch." Lagerloff, a Swedish novelist, was the first woman to obtain the Nobel Prize in Literature, in 1909.

Hace poco lei que Selma Lagerloff ha dicho;" Tenemos que tratar con cuidado las viejas historias. En ellas, como en las rosas viejas, sus petalos se deshojan al menor contacto." Lagerloff, novelista sueca, fue la primera mujer en obtener el Premio Nobel de Literatura, en 1909.
