Aljibe del Museo, watercolor in my travel journal. This "aljibe", or ancient water-well, is at the entrance of the Museo de Bellas Artes in Sevilla. I painted it a few days ago, sitting in front of it, listening to the birds in the patio next to it. This art museum has permanent and temporary collections in its beautiful two story building, in front of the Plaza Murillo. Several patios with water fountains, plants, trees, shade and peace. People walk by speaking French, English, Italian, German, or Spanish. It's open every day except Mondays, till 8:00pm, and it's FREE, GRATIS AND FOR NOTHING!

Sketch-Balcony
Sketch-Balcony, watercolor in my travel journal. This balcony happens to be in Marbella, Spain, but it really doesn't matter. What matters is the feeling this balcony gives me, regardless of how much it costs. The sun is shining and I have shade, the plants are thriving, there is water available, and the table has a tablecloth as an invitation to sit down and eat something. As I travel from one language to another, from one culture to another, I realize I do not have feelings of "patriotism". My feelings are for individuals, not for groups under a colored piece of cloth. Individuals feel happy, sad, suffer and die. I am "patriotic", since I respect people I admire: hard working people who take care of themselves and their families.

Bus `a l'aeroport
Bus `a l'aeroport, watercolor in my travel journal. After a lovely day in Toulouse, I took the bus to the airport Toulouse-Blagnac. This young lady was sitting with one foot on her suitcase. It caught my eye...and I quickly sketched her! I'm thinking of what Robert Henry said: "Don't belong to any school, or get tied up to any technique. All outward success, when it has value, is but the inevitable result of an inward success of full living, full play and enjoyment of one's faculties."

Hotel Le Bristol
Hotel Le Bristol, Toulouse, watercolor in my travel journal.
"The key word is trust. Trust everything that happens in life, even those experiences that cause pain will serve to better you in the end. It's easy to lose the inner vision, the greater truths, in the face of tragedy. Along with developing a basic trust in the rhyme and reason of life itself, I advise you to trust your intuition. It is a far better guide in the long run than your intellect." Henry Miller, from REFLECTIONS.

Gare Matabiau
Gare Matabiau, watercolor in my travel journal. Painted a few days ago in Toulouse, France, from the window of my hotel across the street. Toulouse is such a beautiful city, crossed by the Canal du Midi, with tree-lined avenues, a strong business district, a lively university life, businesses, tourists, the famous "Cite de l'Espace", industries, etc. etc. It is organized with two concentric freeways surrounding the city, called the "Periferique Interieur", and of course, the "Periferique Exterieur", the bus system and metro system are very convenient to go all around town.

In Deep Thought
In Deep Thought, watercolor, 31x41cm.(12x16") In honor of Ernestina Civetta de Aeberhard.
This is my own translation of a beautiful poem by Antonio Machado:"On the side of the road":
On the side of the road we sat one day.
Our life is only time, and our only woe
is the desperate struggle to hold on...
But She will not miss the date.

Concentrado Pensando, acuarela.

Chateaux d'Argeles
Chateaux d'Argeles, watercolor, 31x41cm. (12x16") This painting was inspired by my visit, last year, to the small castle in Argeles-Gazost, in the Haute Pyrenees, France.
I recently read that Selma Lagerloff, has said: "We have to treat old stories very carefully. They are similar to old roses, in which their petals fall off at the lightest touch." Lagerloff, a Swedish novelist, was the first woman to obtain the Nobel Prize in Literature, in 1909.
