MEMORY LANE, watercolor

MEMORY LANE, watercolor, 8x11 in.
Accepted for exhibition at the San Diego Watercolor Society gallery during the month of April. Come to the reception on Friday, April 4th, 5:00-8:00 pm. Come for the wine, stay for the art!

As I look at this painting of my parents, I remember my mother noticing that as you age, people no longer notice you, or value your opinion, you become invisible. So I paint, write, email, blog, publish, post, teach, and make my mark, my statement: "I am alive, I have ideas, I can produce, give, influence and affect others!"

PUNTARENAS FROM THE BALCONY, watercolor on Arches

PUNTARENAS FROM THE BALCONY, watercolor on Arches paper, 9x12 in.

Costa Rica was a wonderful experience! I spent five weeks in San Ramon, traveled to Volcan Poas, Tortuguero, San Jose, Puntarenas, walked to and from downtown San Ramon daily, made friends, ate rice and beans plus a host of delicious treats, laughed, painted in watercolors and pastels, had a solo show: PURA VIDA! at the Museo San Ramon, Universidad de Costa Rica, and most of all: I met the most wonderful people in the world! Costa Rica is good for your health!

FORTALEZAS DE LA MUJER, acrylic on canvas

FORTALEZAS DE LA MUJER, acrylic on canvas, 32x 24 in.
This painting was recently obtained by the Museo San Ramon, Universidad de Costa Rica.

The painting depicts the 24 human strengths, written on the umbrella, which covers three women in different activities. The women are dressed in the three primary colors, to emphasize their "primary functions" in the life of the community. The woman in blue has a bookcase with books behind her. In the original, it is possible to read the titles, which are the names of women writers, painters, and one sculptor: Camille Claudel, and one photographer: Yahida Malhulla. The women's lives are reflected in the pool of their tears.

PUNTARENAS III, Costa Rica, watercolor

PUNTARENAS III, COSTA RICA, watercolor, 5x7"

Last weekend, was the end of Carnival in Puntarenas, Costa Rica. Lots of noise, lots of people, families, beautiful girls in bathing suits and handsome men, some with motorcycles, were all parading along the main street by the beach. Some "comparsas' passed by with their specific theme, and many vendors of fruits, iced drinks, and food were tempting you along the way. Souvenir shops enticed you with jewelry, postcards, and small knick-knacks. It was fun!
