San Jorge in Alcoy, watercolor, 12x17 cm.When I was in Alcoy, Spain, last week, I saw an exhibit of paintings about San Jorge defending the town, in the "Circulo Industrial" beautiful Art Nouveau building. The legend says that San Jorge fights against the Moors (instead of a dragon). This painting exhibit represented 150 years of Spanish painters, many of them from Alcoy, representing the famous battle between Moors and Christians, when San Jorge appeared and helped win the battle for the Christians. That exhibit inspired my little watercolor.
Cuando estuve en Alcoy, Espana, la semana pasada, vi una exposicion de pinturas acerca de San Jorge defendiendo la ciudad, en el "Circulo Industrial", un bellisimo edificio Art Nouveau. La leyenda cuenta que San Jorge peleo contra los Moros (en vez de contra un dragon). Esta exposicion de pinturas representaba 150 anos de pintores espanoles, algunos de Alcoy mismo, todos representando la famosa batalla entre Moros y Cristianos, cuando San Jorge aparecio y ayudo a ganar la batalla para los Cristianos. Esa exposicion inspiro mi pequena acuarela.
