Driving to Los Angeles in the Rain II

Driving to Los Angeles in the Rain II, watercolor, 4x6" (10x15 cm.) painted "a la prima".
Viajando a Los Angeles en la Lluvia II
. acuarela, pintada en el auto.

At the Santa Monica Museum of Art, the exhibit at the moment is "Combustione: Alberto Burri and America". I had never heard of Alberto Burri. I learned that although Alberto Burri is not much known in the USA, he's considered one of the most influential Italian artists of the second half of the 20th century. He was a physician in the Italian Army during WWII, captured by English troops and taken prisoner. Upon his release in 1946, he was so disgusted with war and human beings, that he resigned and became an artist. This body of work on exhibit now in Santa Monica consists of burlap sacks, burned wood, acrylic, on a radical approach to abstraction. I liked it very much.
Me gusto mucho.
