The book COMPOSITION, A Painter's Guide to Basic Problems and Solutions, written by David Friend, has a Foreword by Dr. Joseph Bogen, M.D. It is not common to find a neurosurgeon writing a foreword for an art book. The reason is because he believes, according to his research, that art is invaluable toward the development of the "other" side of the brain, the right side. His findings are that the brain is double, that each cerebral hemisphere is capable of functioning independently and in a different manner. The implications for education in general and for art educators in particular, are far reaching. The bottom line: doing art is good for you!
