Venus Princess after Botticelli

Venus Princess after Botticelli, watercolor, 11x18" (27x45cm.).

This painting comes with a story. Remember I wrote about the cruise I took from Rome to Brazil in December 2009? I have shown on this blog watercolors from my journals I did in Rome and other ports of call. When we were crossing the Atlantic, five days without seeing land aboard the Royal Princess, there was a contest organized by the crew: creating a floating device that would cross the ship's swimming pool. Our dining table had two naval engineers with their wifes: Paul and Chris, and Al and Alice, who believed they could create a good floating device. Our friends Nick and Regi, and my husband and me joined them in the adventure. The floating device had to have a name, and we had to put on a show the day of the contest, when we arrived at the Amazon, in Brazil. We decided to call it: "Venus Princess" ("princess"after the cruise line) and my job was to paint a watercolor of Botticelli's Venus. We all had fun with the project and the preparations, ours was the best "ship", of course, and we almost won. We got second place. This is the watercolor I did for the sail.
